The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in September and given more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This encompassed trying to remove his tracking device and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on online platforms on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your couch? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the possibility of his "relocation to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a background of planning to ask for protection through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the federal district, Brasilia, is located around 13km from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

Bolsonaro's legal woes have drawn the ire of fellow populist conservative American leader President Trump, prompting him to impose a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.

The former president is being detained in a Federal Police station in the capital and will have a custody hearing on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on Friday that the his legal team asked the Supreme Court to permit him to serve his whole jail sentence under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also requested that the former president be authorized to depart his residence for medical care, saying he demanded ongoing care for lung conditions and other ailments.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of leading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the national vote to his ideological adversary, Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which encompassed plans to murder the current president and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was stopped because it failed to get the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, numerous his followers invaded and destroyed official structures in the federal district, the capital city.

The law enforcement took action and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.

The justices found that the demonstrators had been provoked by him whose strategy, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, reestablish control and return him to office.

At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until 2060 - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the next presidential race.
